Crystal Lake, IL –Downtown Crystal Lake was filled with excitement and community spirit this past weekend as the Crystal Lake Half Marathon and 12K drew more than 400 participants from across the region. Held on Sunday, August 31st, the event brought together runners of all ages and experience levels to celebrate endurance, competition, personal achievement and camaraderie.
The event offered two distances, the 12K and the half marathon, along a scenic course that highlighted some of Crystal Lake’s most iconic areas, including Main Beach, Lippold Park, the historic Dole Mansion, and the Prairie Path, before finishing in the heart of Downtown Crystal Lake. Participants ranged from seasoned athletes to first-time half marathoners and local families, with young runners joining in through the annual “Kids Run This Town” program. Volunteers and spectators lined the course, their cheers creating a festive atmosphere that carried participants to the finish line.
This year’s half marathon would not have been possible without the support of the 17 generous sponsors and 83 volunteers from the Crystal Lake area, whose contributions helped provide hydration stations, post-race refreshments and on-course support.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and the positive energy this year,” said Denise Smith, Race Director and Owner of Smith Physical Therapy+. “Seeing more than 400 runners come together, supported by our sponsors and community, shows how strong the running culture is in our area. We are grateful to the Crystal Lake Police Department for keeping our runners safe. We thank the participants, volunteers, sponsors, and the Crystal Lake community for making this event a continuing success and we look forward to welcoming even more runners next year.”
